Live Music Returns to the County Museum

Hurleyville, NY – On Sunday, February 16, at 2 p.m., the Frederick Cook Society will present an afternoon of live Americana and folk music featuring Hudson Valley favorites Annie and Mike Baglione.

Mike Baglione is a founding member of the bluegrass bands Tin Roof, Oxford Depot and the Jersey Mountain Boys. He has performed at coffee houses and on festival stages throughout the Northeast, and has also been heard live on radio stations WFDU, WJFF, WTBQ and WNYC. 

County's Financial Reporting Continues to Win Awards

Monticello, NY – For the 34th consecutive time, the Sullivan County Treasurer’s Office has been accorded the Financial Reporting Achievement Award from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA). The County also received a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the GFOA.

DA Conaty Announces 10-Year Sentence for Arson

Liberty, NY - On January 24. 2025, Sullivan County District Attorney, Brian P. Conaty announced that Davina Holden, 57, of Liberty, was sentenced to ten years incarceration in state prison to be followed by five years of post-release supervision by Sullivan County Court Judge James R. Farrell on January 16, 2025, upon her conviction for Arson in the Second Degree, a Class B violent felony. Holden pled guilty to that charge on December 12, 2024, admitting that she intentionally set fire to her residence located at 36 Liberty Commons Way on July 16, 2024, while knowing her son was inside.

DA Conaty Announces 20-Year Sentence for Attempted Murder

Liberty, NY - On January 24, 2025, Sullivan County District Attorney Brian P. Conaty announced that Darwin Banegas-Ortiz, 40, of Liberty, was sentenced to twenty years’ incarceration in state prison to be followed by five years of post-release supervision by Sullivan County Court Judge James R. Farrell on January 16, 2025, upon his conviction for Attempted Murder in the Second Degree, a Class B Felony.

DA Conaty Announces Indictment for Death of 2-Year-Old Child

Monticello, NY - On January 24, 2025, Sullivan County District Attorney Brian P. Conaty announced that a Sullivan County Grand Jury has returned a True Bill of Indictment charging Sarah Carter, 34, of Monticello, with Criminally Negligent Homicide, a Class E Felony, for leaving a two-year old child unattended inside her 2012 Ford Explorer on July 16, 2024, for several hours with the vehicle turned off and the windows rolled-up, thereby causing the child’s tragic death. It was reported that that the temperature exceeded 90 degree Fahrenheit that day.

Monticello, NY – The NYS Office for the Aging will celebrate Older New Yorkers’ Day on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, and Sullivan County has an opportunity to include up to two local honorees!

At the ceremony in Albany, all honorees will receive a package that includes:

"Catskills Capers" Kicks Off on January 25!

Hurleyville, NY – The Sullivan County Historical Society will be hosting a book talk by local author Lily Barrish Levner on Saturday, January 25 at 2 p.m. at the Sullivan County Museum in Hurleyville. Refreshments will be served. Admission is free, though donations are always appreciated.

In “Banquets & Bootleg Bounty,” author Lily Barrish Levner transports readers to the summer of 1944 at the Concord Hotel. She pays homage to her paternal grandparents by naming her new novel’s main characters Dotty and Abe after them.
