Bring Your Household Hazardous Waste to the Monticello Transfer Station June 8

Monticello, NY – Public Works Committee Chair Joe Perrello is pleased to announce that Sullivan County is hosting a residential Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event next month.

Scheduled for Sunday, June 8, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., it will be offered at the Monticello Transfer Station’s Scale House area at 91 Landfill Drive.

“This is a great time to clean out your household chemicals,” said Perrello. “These items can be dangerous to people and the environment if stored a long time or just thrown out with the rest of the trash.”

Lake Superior Opens May 24!

Bethel, NY – Lake Superior State Park will open to the public for picnicking, boat rentals, and swimming starting Memorial Day Weekend and continue to operate every weekend through the end of June from 9 a.m.-7 p.m. Daily operation commences June 21 through September 1. Hours of operation are 9 a.m.-7 p.m. Friday–Sunday and 10 a.m.–6 p.m. Monday-Thursday, subject to weather conditions.

DPW Auctioning Surplus Vehicles and Equipment

Monticello, NY – Bidders are welcome from now through May 29 on more than 30 items – including assorted metal, trucks, containers, even a lathe and a hay blower – up for auction by the Sullivan County Division of Public Works (DPW).

“There’s something to interest any bargain-hunter,” says District 7 Legislator and Public Works Committee Chair Joe Perrello. “I invite everyone to take a look and make a bid.”

Sullivan County Budget Again Wins National Award

Monticello, NY – For the tenth time in a row, Sullivan County has earned the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA).

A panel of judges reviewed over 1,700 budgets submitted to the GFOA, including Sullivan County’s version for the 2025 fiscal year. They judged the budgets on their excellence as policy documents, financial plans, operations guides and communications devices, deeming Sullivan’s to be proficient in all four categories.
