Monticello, NY – Brian P. Conaty, District Attorney of Sullivan County, today announced that the Sullivan County District Attorney’s Office is participating in the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services’ (DCJS) Safe Storage Saves Lives program. This statewide initiative is designed to encourage responsible firearm ownership by promoting secure storage practices that protect children, families, and communities.
The program supports law enforcement agencies and community based organizations across New York State to raise awareness about the importance of safe firearm storage. The District Attorney’s aim is to reduce accidental shootings, prevent unauthorized access to firearms, and save lives.
“Keeping our community safe means addressing risks before they become tragedies,” said District Attorney Conaty. “The Safe Storage Saves Lives program empowers families with the tools and knowledge to store firearms securely. This simple step can prevent accidents and protect our loved ones.”
Through this initiative, the District Attorney’s Office invites Sullivan County residents to stop by our office during regular business hours to pick up a free cable lock and educational materials. These resources are available at no cost, and staff will be on hand to provide information about safe storage practices and devices such as gun locks and safes
