Legislators Adopt 2026 Budget

Monticello, NY – Via a 5-3 vote today, legislators approved the 2026 Sullivan County Budget. In favor were Nadia Rajsz, Matthew McPhillips, Brian McPhillips, Catherine Scott and Luis Alvarez. Opposed were Joe Perrello, Nicholas Salomone and Terry Blosser-Bernardo. Amanda Ward was unable to attend.

The $305,738,103 million budget comes with a 2% tax levy increase, under the State-mandated tax cap.

DA Conaty Shares Holiday Greetings

Monticello, NY – Brian P. Conaty, District Attorney of Sullivan County, and his administration extend warm holiday greetings to the residents of Sullivan County, recognizing the diverse traditions and resilience of the community.

HEAP Season Begins December 1

Liberty, NY – The 2025-2026 Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) season is now slated to start December 1, according to the NYS Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance.

“The original date of November 3 was delayed due to the Federal government shutdown. Now that the shutdown has ended, we’re glad to be able to offer this lifeline to eligible Sullivan County residents,” notes Sullivan County Health & Human Services Commissioner John Liddle.

DA Conaty Announces 33 Years-to-Life Sentence for Murder

Monticello, NY - On November 24, 2025, Sullivan County District Attorney Brian P. Conaty announced that Jonte Wunner, 27, of Monticello, was sentenced to 33 years’ to life incarceration in state prison by Sullivan County Court Judge James R. Farrell upon Wunner’s conviction for Murder in the Second Degree, a Class A-II felony, Concealment of a Human Corpse, a Class E Felony, and Tampering with Physical Evidence, a Class E Felony.
