Autumn Returns, and So Does Sullivan County's Fall Foliage Exhibit!

Monticello, NY – The Sullivan County Parks & Recreation Office once again welcomes photographs taken of the beautiful fall foliage at County parks and museums!

“We are accepting submissions now through November 30, 2025,” says Assistant Recreation Director Fiona Feltman. “The leaves are starting to change colors, and it’s a great time to go out and enjoy the crisp, cool fall air at our County parks!”

DA Conaty Announces 10-Year Sentence for Armed Robbery and Burglary

Monticello, NY - On September 16, 2025, Sullivan County District Attorney Brian P. Conaty announced that Ollen Eck, 40, of Liberty, was sentenced to ten years’ incarceration in state prison to be followed by five years of post-release supervision by Sullivan County Court Judge James R. Farrell following Eck’s conviction for Robbery in the Second Degree, a Class C violent felony.

POW/MIA Day to Be Observed in Monticello

The Fallen Comrade Table, present at every Sullivan County POW/MIA Recognition Day, features a specific set of items designed to remember American servicepeople who were/are Prisoners of War or Missing in Action.

Monticello, NY – The Sullivan County Veterans Service Agency will have a special ceremony in honor of POW/MIA Recognition Day at 1 p.m. on Friday, September 19 inside the lobby of the Sullivan County Government Center, 100 North Street, Monticello.

Take a Guided History Walk Along a Local Canal and Railroad

Summitville, NY – This fall, join knowledgeable guide Kerron Barnes on walks along parts of the D&H Canal Linear Trail and O&W Rail Trail, where he’ll speak to the history of both trails.

The first walk will be Sunday, September 21 at 1 p.m. The second will be Saturday, October 11 at 10 a.m. The walks start at Sullivan County’s D&H Canal Interpretive Center, 16 Bova Road, Summitville. Come immerse yourself in the history of the D&H Canal & O&W Railroad through a two-mile easy walk along both trails.

Farmers' Market Coupons Still Available

Monticello, NY — The Sullivan County Office for the Aging encourages eligible residents to get their farmer’s market coupons before they’re gone.

“The Senior Farmer’s Market Nutrition Program provides an opportunity for seniors to support local farmers and improve their health by buying and eating more locally grown fruits, vegetables, and fresh-cut herbs,” explains Office for the Aging Director Lise-Anne Deoul. “We’ve gotten another shipment of Farmer’s Market Coupon booklets that we’re distributing on a first-come, first-served basis.”

Raccoon Tests Positive for Rabies Near Wurtsboro

Liberty, NY – The Sullivan County Department of Public Health has confirmed that a raccoon in the Wurtsboro area tested positive for the rabies virus. This is the third confirmed human exposure incident involving a laboratory-confirmed rabid animal this year. These are ONLY animals that were able to be tested after being in contact with a human.

Rabies occurs commonly throughout New York State, with the vast majority of cases occurring in raccoons, bats, foxes, skunks and woodchucks. Avoiding contact is your absolute best way of protecting yourself from this fatal disease.
