Summitville, NY – The Delaware & Hudson Canal Interpretive Center (16 Bova Road, Summitville) is kicking off a series of free presentations throughout 2025 with Sullivan County Historian John Conway’s presentation about the mighty economic impact of the canal on Sunday, June 22 at 3 p.m.

Albany, NY – Sullivan County’s Gayle Irving and Sabina Toomey travelled last month to Albany to each receive the NYS Office for the Aging’s “Older New Yorker” award.

Monticello, NY - Brian P. Conaty, District Attorney of Sullivan County, announced a 22-count indictment against David Gizinski, 38, of Gizinski Construction, LLC, including charges of Grand Larceny in the Third and Fourth Degrees, and two counts of Scheme to Defraud in the First Degree.  The indictment alleges that the defendant engaged in an ongoing course of conduct between December 15th, 2021 and October 7th, 2024 by engaging in what is commonly referred to as contractor fraud with at least ten (10) homeowners culminating in losses to the homeowners exceeding $40,000.

Monticello, NY - On June 4, 2025, Sullivan County District Attorney Brian P. Conaty announced that a Sullivan County Jury found Lavaun Weir, 33, of Monticello, guilty of one count of Predatory Sexual Assault Against a Child, a Class A-II Felony, following a three-day jury trial. The jury found that between June of 2011 and July of 2014, Weir, being more than 18 years old, engaged in two or more acts of sexual conduct which included at least one act of vaginal sexual contact or oral sexual contact with a child less than 13 years old.

Neversink, NY – On Saturday, June 28, from 5-8 p.m., the Frederick A. Cook Society (based in the Sullivan County Museum in Hurleyville), in partnership with The Gallery at the Neversink General Store, will present an exhibition of photographs taken by Dr. Frederick Cook during his expeditions to Greenland, Antarctica, Alaska, South America and the North Pole.

Dr. Cook (1865-1940) is the Sullivan County native who achieved international fame for his visionary work as an explorer.

Harris, NY – Garnet Health and Sullivan County’s Bureau of EMS proudly hosted local emergency medical agencies at Garnet Health Medical Center - Catskills in Harris on May 20 for the annual EMS Appreciation Luncheon.

Monticello, NY – In order to better accommodate commercial haulers, Sullivan County’s scale at the Monticello Transfer Station will operate on an expanded schedule, starting June 2.

“Our private waste haulers have said they need increased access to our main transfer station, and I’m pleased to say that is about to become a reality,” said District 7 Legislator Joe Perrello, chair of the Legislature’s Public Works Committee. “We’ll be staffing our scale in Monticello a full hour-and-a-half longer Mondays through Fridays, and 45 minutes more on Saturdays.”

NARROWSBURG — Fort Delaware Museum of Colonial History in Narrowsburg, NY has announced its schedule of special programs for the 2025 season.

For the fourth consecutive year, the series of presentations will be sponsored by Bold Gold Media.

The Bold Gold Media Speaker Series kicked off on the Fort’s opening day, Saturday, May 17 with a presentation by Sullivan County Historian John Conway exploring the newly discovered connection between Benedict Arnold and Cushetunk, the first permanent European settlement in the Upper Delaware region.
