Bridge Work Beginning Monday, April 8 in Harris

Harris, NY – The Sullivan County Division of Public Works will be working on County Bridge 333 on County Road 174 (Old Route 17) in the Town of Thompson starting this Monday, April 8. County Bridge 333 is located in Harris approximately 500 ft. south of the intersection of CR 174 and CR 75 (Harris-Bushville Rd.).

This section of CR 174 is scheduled to be reduced to alternating-direction, single-lane traffic controlled by traffic signals starting at 8 a.m. on April 8 and will remain single-lane for approximately 5 weeks.

Open Access to Services Expanding

Liberty, NY – Sullivan County’s Department of Community Services is increasing the available times for walk-in service for those seeking mental health, substance use and/or other therapeutic assistance, starting April 3.

“Based on usage patterns and to better serve those who can’t or don’t want to wait for an appointment, the Department of Community Services will welcome walk-ins every Tuesday from late morning until 7 p.m.,” said Community Services Director Salif Banse. “And our Mental Health Clinic will continue to accept walk-ins every Thursday between 9 a.m. and noon.”

Time for Spring Cleaning!

Monticello, NY – Sullivan County’s Annual Roadside & Trail Litter Pluck launches April 1 and runs all the way through October 31, 2024.  By resolution of the County Legislature, the disposal fee is waived during that time for roadside & public trail litter at County-operated transfer stations.

This popular annual event is coordinated by the County’s Parks, Recreation and Beautification Department and the Division of Public Works.

Liberty, NY – The results of a new survey will guide the County in enhancing processes and services for rental building owners and managers.

“The Sullivan County Department of Social Services aims to better support the relationship between the Department, tenants and landlords,” notes Deputy Commissioner of Social Services Giselle Steketee. “We want to bridge that gap in communication between everyone, especially landlords.”

Burn Ban Now in Effect Statewide

Kauneonga Lake and White Lake firefighters had to spray down a fast-moving brush fire just this month, reducing a field of dry grass to ash (as can be seen in this photo from the White Lake Fire Company’s Facebook page).
