Cliff Robinson will be discussing the history of the Delaware & Hudson Canal from Port Jervis to Phillipsport, sharing facts about day-to-day life and how the canal operated! This free event kicks off at 2 p.m., but come early and take in all of the fascinating displays the Interpretive Center has to offer.
Monticello, NY - On August 11, 2025, Sullivan County District Attorney Brian P. Conaty announced that Lavaun Weir, 33, of Monticello, was sentenced to 25 years to life in state prison by Sullivan County Judge James R. Farrell upon Weir’s conviction for Predatory Sexual Assault Against a Child, a Class A-II Felony, following a three-day jury trial. In addition to the prison sentence, Weir was ordered to register as a sex offender and pay all applicable fines and surcharges out of his prison commissary.
Monticello, NY - On August 7, 2025, Sullivan County District Attorney Brian P. Conaty announced that Bryan Robinson, 38, of Monticello, was sentenced to 22 years’ to life in state prison as a Persistent Violent Felony Offender by Sullivan County Court Judge James R. Farrell upon Robinson’s convictions for Robbery in the First Degree, a class B violent felony, Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree, a class D felony, and Grand Larceny in the Fourth Degree, a class E felony, following a three-day jury trial.
Liberty, NY – Sullivan County District 6 Legislator Luis Alvarez has been appointed to five committees of the National Association of Counties (NACo).
NACo President J.D. Clark this month notified Alvarez of his appointment, following prior service on the national advocacy organization’s Health Steering Committee, Immigration Reform Task Force, Programs and Services Standing Committee, Rural Action Caucus, and Veterans and Military Services Committee.

Monticello, NY - On July 30, 2025, Sullivan County District Attorney Brian P. Conaty announced the promotion of DA Investigator Scott Kinne to Chief Investigator for the Sullivan County District Attorney’s Office. This is the first time in Sullivan County history that such an appointment has been made.

Liberty, NY – The Sullivan County Department of Public Health has confirmed that a grey fox in the Grahamsville area tested positive for the rabies virus.
“Rabies is not a rare disease within Sullivan County wildlife,” notes Public Health Director Dr. Jessie Moore. “On average, Sullivan County sees 4 to 5 cases of positive rabid animals per year. These are ONLY animals that were able to be tested after being in contact with a human.”

According to the Coalition, the phrase “Jews did 9/11” was scrawled on a sidewalk in a busy shopping area.
Liberty, NY – Sullivan County Manager Joshua Potosek is pleased to announce his appointment of Kayshawn Macharie as the new Licensed Administrator of the Sullivan County Adult Care Center, better known as the Care Center at Sunset Lake.
“Kayshawn exemplifies commitment, trust and compassion – and he’s already providing that to Care Center employees, residents and their families,” Potosek related. “I’m excited to see how he and the staff will make the Care Center the first choice of people needing both short- and long-term services.”
