Bring Your Household Hazardous Waste to the Monticello Transfer Station June 14

Monticello, NY – Public Works Committee Chair Joe Perrello is pleased to announce that Sullivan County is hosting a residential Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event in June. 

Scheduled for Sunday, June 14, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., it will be offered at the Monticello Transfer Station at 91 Landfill Drive.

“This is a great time to clean out your household chemicals,” said Perrello. “These items can be dangerous to people and the environment if stored a long time or just thrown out with the rest of the trash.”

Summitville, NY – This spring, join Kerron Barnes as he guides you along parts of the D&H Canal Linear Trail and O&W Rail Trail in Wurtsboro and Summitville, speaking of the history of both trails, or accompany Dr. Walter Jahn in studying birds and local wildlife along the canal! It’s easy to immerse yourself in history, nature, and wildlife through these easy, almost entirely flat journeys. 

County Manager Serves as Northeast VP of National Association of County Administrators

Washington, DC – Sullivan County Manager Joshua Potosek has been named the Northeast Regional Vice President of the National Association of County Administrators (NACA). In this role he serves as NACA liaison with county administrators in New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, Maryland, Delaware and the District of Columbia.

DA's Office Commemorates 2026 National Crime Victims' Rights Week

Monticello, NY - The week of April 19 to April 25, 2026 marks the 45th anniversary of National Crime Victims’ Rights Week (NCVRW), first proclaimed by President Ronald Reagan in 1981. This annual observance recognizes the experiences of crime victims and survivors while reaffirming a national commitment to ensuring their voices are heard and their rights protected.

Apply Now for HEAP Cooling Benefit

Liberty, NY – Worried about suffering in the heat this summer? Sullivan County’s HEAP (Home Energy Assistance Program) Office has begun accepting Cooling Benefit applications, but only until funds run out. 

The Cooling Benefit can provide eligible applicants with an air conditioner in a room in their home. In circumstances where an air conditioner cannot be safely installed, a fan will be offered. Only one unit will be provided per household, and no additional HEAP cash benefits are available.
