text

Wurtsboro, NY - Come out and celebrate winter with the Sullivan O&W Rail Trail Alliance on Sunday, February 1st at 10:00 AM on the historic O&W Rail Trail in the Town of Mamakating.

The SnO&W started in 2020 as a snowshoe fun run and walk and rotates locations each year to feature a different segment of the Sullivan O&W Rail Trail. Participants are encouraged to bring their own snowshoes or similar gear if they have them. Limited snowshoes and microspikes will be available to rent, free of charge, on a first come, first served basis.

“The Sullivan O&W Rail Trail is a trail for everyone, and winter is a great time to experience the trail!” said Heather Jacksy, Sullivan County Planning Director and member of the Alliance.

The event will begin at the Mamakating Environmental Education Center (MEEC) at 762 South Road, Wurtsboro, NY 12790. Participants will have the opportunity to choose from an “out and back” route from MEEC or be shuttled to the South Road DEC Bashakill Access to hike the 1.7 miles back to MEEC. Leashed dogs are welcome.

Participating fire departments in the Sullivan 180 Healthiest Fire Department Challenge will receive 3 points for attending with five or more active members.
