Our Lead Poisoning Prevention Program’s goal is to eliminate lead poisoning in young children in Sullivan County.

 

We can help with:

  • Prevention education for parents and caregivers. 

  • Pointing out risks that might cause lead poisoning

  • Follow up care and case management for children with lead in their blood

  1. When does my child need to be tested for lead?

    1. Children need to be tested for lead at ages 1 and 2. You can do this at your child’s doctor’s office. Remember, children under 6 years old are at higher risk of lead poisoning so regular checks are recommended!

  2. What is lead poisoning caused by?

    1. Swallowing or breathing in lead dust! Most children will get lead poisoning from paint in homes built before 1978. If your home was built before 1978, have your home assessed by a professional lead inspector.

  4. How does good nutrition help protect my child from lead poisoning?
