(Monticello, NY 11:30am) - Sullivan County Legislator and Chair of Agriculture & Sustainability Committee Catherine Owens is pleased to announce the Beach at Lake Superior State Park will open to the public on Memorial Day weekend Saturday, May 27, 2017 and continue to operate on weekends through the end of June, when it will commence its daily operations through Labor Day.

Sullivan County to Commence a Lawsuit against Various Manufacturers of Prescription Opiates

(Monticello, NY 4:00pm) - The Sullivan County Legislature unanimously voted today, at their 2:00pm full board meeting, to enter into a retainer agreement with the law firm of Simmons Hanly Conroy, LLC to commence a lawsuit on behalf of the County of Sullivan against various manufacturers of prescription opiates.

“The time is long overdue to hold the pharmaceutical companies accountable for their role in creating the opioid addiction crisis,” stated Alan Sorensen, Majority Leader and District 9 Legislator.

The purpose of the meeting is to  authorize an agreement with NYS Division of Criminal Justice Services which has a deadline for submission of June 2, 2017.

Get Rid of Your Residential Hazardous Waste

(Monticello, NY) - Legislative Public Works Committee Chair Joe Perrello is pleased to announce that Sullivan County will host two residential Household Hazardous Waste Collection Events this summer.

The first is scheduled for Saturday, June 17, 2017 from 12:30 PM – 4:30 PM. The second is scheduled for Sunday, July 23, 2017 from 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM. Both events will be staged at the Monticello Transfer Station – Scalehouse area, 91 Landfill Drive, Monticello, NY.

Statement from the Sullivan County Legislature

Monticello, NY - In light of the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York’s announcement of developer Kenneth Nakdimen’s guilty plea to corrupting the electoral process by falsely registering voters in the Village of Bloomingburg, the Sullivan County Legislature will be reviewing its legal options with the County Attorney’s Office, which continues to monitor the case and will advise the Legislature accordingly.

County Wins $200,000 Brownfields Grant

Monticello, NY – Joining 171 other communities across the country, Sullivan County today confirmed it will receive $200,000 from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for brownfield site revitalization in Monticello, Liberty and South Fallsburg.

“The Sullivan County Division of Planning and Environmental Management is elated to have qualified for the maximum allowed amount,” affirmed Sullivan County Planning Commissioner Freda Eisenberg. “This opens the door to building a brownfields program here.”
