County Recovering From Storm Damage – Town of Lumberland Community Center Open as Warming Center

Monticello, N.Y. –Sullivan County Manager Joshua Potosek has announced that the County is recovering from the storm damage caused by Saturday’s storm.  There are power outages across the County.  NYSEG, Central Hudson, and Orange and Rockland Utilities are working to restore power.

In response to localized power outages the Town of Lumberland has activated their Town Hall and Municipal Building as a warming center.  The warming center is located at 1054 Proctor Road, Glen Spey, New York.  The Town can be reached at phone number 845-856-8600 extension #1221.

Public Health Department and Public Safety Officials To Conduct Emergency Preparedness Drill Feb 28

(Liberty, NY 4:30pm) - An emergency preparedness exercise will take place at the Sullivan County Emergency Services Training Facility on Tuesday, February 28, from 9 am to 2 pm. Sullivan County Public Health Services, public safety and emergency preparedness personnel will exercise key parts of the county’s Health Emergency Operations Plan by simulating responses to a hypothetical influenza pandemic impacting county residents.

Immigration Rights Discussion with Human Rights Commission, March 9th

(Monticello, NY) - Ms Guisela Marroquín. of NYCLU, is scheduled to present a discussion on Immigrant Rights to the Human Rights Commission on Thursday, March 9, 2017 at 6:15 pm.

Guisela Marroquín is the regional organizer for the Long Island and Lower Hudson Valley chapters of the New York Civil Liberties Union. Ms. Marroquín leads statewide work in NYCLU’s Justice for Farmworkers Campaign and carries out our educational and police reform priorities in both regions.

Local Early Intervention Coordinating Council To Meet, March 8th at 3pm

(Liberty, NY 12:10pm) - The Sullivan County Local Early Intervention Coordinating Council (LEICC) will meet Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at 3PM at the Sullivan County Shared Clinic Facility in Liberty. Early Intervention (EI) provides in-home services like physical, occupational and speech therapy to children with disabilities and or developmental delays.

Safe Passage Transitions under Safe Homes of Orange County

(Monticello, NY 4:17pm) - Safe Passage has transitioned under Safe Homes of Orange County effective the beginning of this month. Donna Pennino, Director of Safe Passage has moved along with the program and is now an employee of Safe Homes of Orange County as the Sullivan County Project Coordinator. Sullivan County’s hotline for domestic violence services and assistance is still 845-292-5700 and the program will continue to have an office located at 100 North Street, Monticello, NY 12701. Sullivan County To Accept Electronic Waste At All Transfer Stations

(Monticello, NY 10:50am) - Joseph Perrello, District 7 Legislator and Chairman of the Public Works Committee announces that effective Monday, March 13, 2017, the Sullivan County operated transfer stations located in Monticello, Ferndale, Mamakating, Highland, Rockland and Cochecton will resume acceptance of Electronic Waste and Consumer Batteries during normal operating hours.

Upstate Poison Control Director to Speak on Drugs of Abuse - March 20 at 10 am- 11 am

(Liberty, NY 12:15pm) - Sullivan County’s Rural Health Network Drug Prevention Task Force will be sponsoring a special presentation at the Government Center, Monday 3/20 from 10-11am. The presenter, Michele Caliva, RN, CSPI is the Administrative Director of the Upstate Poison Center.

Ms. Caliva’s presentation will include:

- Current statistics regarding Sullivan County calls to the Poison Center.
- The rise in opioid deaths
- The impact on local health and communities agencies
- Drug trending and dangers - how this affects interventions

Tick Talk Program Offered, April 8th in Livingston Manor

(Liberty, NY 11:00am) - With warmer weather just around the corner, our thoughts turn to spending more time in the great outdoors. Unfortunately, that means we also have to think about ticks. Even though ticks and Lyme Disease are prevalent in Sullivan County, there are many ways to reduce the risk of tick bites and disease transmission while enjoying the beautiful scenery Sullivan County has to offer.
