RSVP Is Looking for New Volunteers

Monticello, NY – “There’s no better time than NOW to make a difference in your community by volunteering your time,” encourages Martha Tully, Sullivan County’s RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer Program) Coordinator. “With RSVP you can use and share your skills, talents and life experiences or develop new ones while serving in a variety of volunteer activities in your community!” 

State and County Open COVID-19 Testing Site at SUNY Sullivan

Loch Sheldrake, NY — In coordination with the Governor’s Office and Quadrant Biosciences, SUNY Sullivan has opened a community COVID-19 testing site on campus. Located in The Paul Gerry Field House Upper Lobby, the testing site is open Monday through Friday, 8:30 am–4:00 pm. The PCR test is an oral, saliva-based test. Appointments are strongly encouraged. Limited walk-in appointments are available.

Warming Centers Open Through Weekend

Monticello, NY – In light of the continuing frigid weather, Sullivan County will keep its two warming shelters open tonight through Monday night in Liberty and Monticello:

  • United Methodist Church, 170 North Main Street, Liberty
  • Ted Stroebele Recreation Center, 2 Jefferson Street, Monticello

These facilities will be open to anyone from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. from Friday, January 28 to Monday, January 31 (through the morning of Tuesday, February 1). PLEASE NOTE: Masks are required due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. 

Local Students Create Valentines to Thank Veterans

Monticello, NY – The Sullivan County Veterans Service Agency will once again mount a “Valentines for Vets” exhibit in the lobby of the County Government Center, 100 North Street, Monticello.

The Valentine’s Day cards will be on display from Tuesday, February 8 through Tuesday, February 15 from 9 a.m.-5 p.m.  The program is part of the National Salute to Hospitalized Veterans Week.

3G Service Coming to an End

Monticello, NY – Sullivan County, including its Office for the Aging, is alerting citizens to the fact that their 3G cellphones and other devices may no longer work in the coming months as technology companies transition to supporting only the 4G and the new 5G signals.

“We’re particularly concerned about our senior citizens, who might only use their 3G cellphones for emergencies. The loss of a 3G signal means they won’t even be able to call 911, according to the FCC,” related Office for the Aging Director Lise-Anne Deoul.
