Office for the Aging Invites Residents to Health Fair and Senior Safety Day

Swan Lake, NY – The Sullivan County Office for the Aging has scheduled a Public Hearing on Wednesday, October 16 at the Sullivan County Airport Terminal Lobby, 75 Co. Rd. 183A (Airport Road) in Swan Lake, to gain input from older residents, baby boomers, and other interested parties on programs and services provided by the agency. The Public Hearing begins at 8:30 a.m. with registration and a free light breakfast, followed by a health fair.

Veterans Warmly Invited to Expo on October 11

Loch Sheldrake, NY – The Sullivan County Veterans Service Agency looks forward to serving veterans’ needs at the annual Sullivan County Expo and Stand Down on Friday, October 11, at the Loch Sheldrake Firehouse on Route 52 in Loch Sheldrake (near the entrance to SUNY Sullivan).

Between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., Agency staff and volunteers will offer information, personal care items, legal services, employment opportunities, counseling, housing resources, healthcare services, food, clothing and lunch to all veterans, free of charge.

Mosquitoes: What You Can Do About Them

Liberty, NY – Sullivan County Public Health Services reminds everyone to continue to protect themselves from mosquito bites and the potential for mosquito-borne illnesses.

Mosquitoes continue to be active throughout the fall, and will be most active at dawn and dusk. To protect yourselves from mosquito bites, the New York State Department of Health and Sullivan County Public Health Services recommend the following:

Uniquely American, Uniquely Acoustic at the County Museum on October 6

Hurleyville, NY – Summer may be over, but our First Sunday Music in History Program isn’t!

This October 6 at 2 p.m., the Sullivan County Museum will host musical performances and a discussion on the impact of acoustic instruments in North America. Sponsored by the Sullivan County Historical Society, the program will showcase some uniquely American styles of music such as Bluegrass, Old Time Country and Americana. There will be several examples of instruments on display, including banjos, guitars and mandolins. 

VA Holding Town Hall in Monticello October 1

MONTICELLO, NY - The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Hudson Valley Health Care System will be hosting a town hall for Veterans, family members, and the public on Tuesday, October 1, at 6:00 p.m. at the Sullivan County Government Center, 100 North Street, Monticello, NY 12701. The meeting is intended to provide local Veterans an open forum and for VA officials to hear directly from beneficiaries.

Local Artists Invited to Submit Work for Display at Government Center

Monticello, NY – Over the past year, the Sullivan County Homegrown Artists Exhibition Program has mounted dozens of pieces of art in the hallways of the Government Center in Monticello, from paintings and photographs to collages and sculptures. But with only four of the eight main hallways decorated thus far, the independent committee overseeing the program is seeking more artwork by Sullivan County artists to display on the second floor.
