'Yasgur' in Concert at the County Museum!

Hurleyville, NY – The Woodstock 50th Anniversary is over, but the music, the message, and the songs are alive and well in Sullivan County. And one of the bands keeping that spirit alive is the roots rock and blues group “Yasgur.” 

“Yasgur” is a powerful 4-piece guitar and harmonica-driven band, playing danceable swing, jump and Chicago-style blues. The band covers tunes by Muddy Waters, Tom Waits, Bruce Springsteen, The Grateful Dead, Chuck Berry, and many others.

Narrowsburg, NY – Venture to Fort Delaware for a colonial wedding! Take a step back in time to view a re-enactment of a colonial-era wedding on Saturday, August 24 at 1 p.m. Explore the traditional decorations and clothing attire of colonial times.

Then on Sunday, August 25 at 1 p.m., come enjoy a visit with Martha Washington, who will be discussing the Marquis de la Lafayette and his important role in helping the Americans during the Revolutionary War.

Woodstock's 50th a Memorable Success

Bethel, NY – Sullivan County welcomed an estimated 100,000 people to events and activities across the region this past weekend. Looming largest was the 50th anniversary of the famous Woodstock Music and Art Fair, a multi-venue celebration of the Bethel rock festival that impacted the nation and the world.

Fort Delaware Presents Colonial Pub Weekend

Narrowsburg, NY – On August 17 and 18, Fort Delaware will be hosting a Colonial Pub Weekend. Visitors will learn all about the use and importance of taverns during the early days. Taverns and inns were often a place for travelers to find a place to eat and sleep on their ventures. Taverns were also a gathering place for men to discuss business and politics.

On Saturday, August 17, there will be Pub Fare Cooking Demonstrations for guests to learn what colonial travelers ate on their journey. Cooking demonstrations in Dutch and Clay ovens will be held throughout the day.

Hurleyville, NY – On Sunday, August 25, at 1 p.m., the Sullivan County Historical Society will present Mickey Barnett at the historic Rivoli Theater in South Fallsburg. The program is an extension of the Sullivan County Historical Society’s First Sunday Music and History series, which has been presenting great performers from Sullivan County’s glorious past.

Sullivan County Legend Honored by Legislature

Liberty resident, longtime dancer and “Dirty Dancing” inspiration Jackie Horner was honored August 15 with the Sullivan County Legislature’s Distinguished Citizen Award. Congratulating her were, front row from the left, legislators Luis Alvarez and Joe Perrello, along with Deputy County Manager John Liddle; and back row from the left, legislators Ira Steingart, Alan Sorensen, Scott Samuelson, Catherine Owens, Terri Ward and Nadia Rajsz. Unable to be present was Legislator Mark McCarthy.

Sullivan County Addressing Proposed NYSEG Rate Increase

Monticello, NY – County Manager Josh Potosek has submitted official comments on behalf of the Sullivan County Legislature regarding the rate increase requested by New York State Electric and Gas (NYSEG) earlier this summer.  The New York State Public Service Commission (PSC) will hear public comments during several hearings in NYSEG’s service territory, and comments are also posted online at the PSC website.
