Women to Be Celebrated at County Museum

Hurleyville, NY – The Catskill Readers’ Theatre is pleased to present an afternoon of stories, music, and women’s history titled “Celebrate Women.”

The program, sponsored by the Sullivan County Historical Society, will celebrate women with songs, literature, and a Powerpoint presentation. Female “movers and shakers” are welcome! The event will be held Saturday, March 7, at 2 p.m. at the  Sullivan County Museum, 265 Main Street, Hurleyville.

Legislators Ask for Sales Tax Increase in Response to State's Unfunded Mandates

Monticello, NY – The Sullivan County Legislature this week unanimously agreed to ask New York State to increase the local share of the sales tax by half a percent, requesting a raise in the current rate from 4% to 4.5%. (The State collects an additional 4%, so if the State grants the request, sales tax in Sullivan County would increase from 8% to 8.5%.)

'Hate Has No Home' Vigil Coming to Callicoon

Monticello, NY – The Sullivan County Human Rights Commission, in partnership with Sullivan Allies Leading Together (SALT) and the Callicoon Business Association, invites the entire Sullivan County community to join them for a vigil at the Callicoon Train Depot between Upper and Lower Main St. in Callicoon on Sunday, February 23 at 4:30 p.m. There will be coffee and tea at The Callicoon Pantry, 43 Lower Main St., after the vigil.

HEAP Benefits Extended and Increased

Liberty, NY – The State will initiate a second round of Emergency HEAP (Home Energy Assistance Program) benefits on Tuesday, February 18, and has also extended the first round of Emergency HEAP benefits, plus the regular HEAP benefits, to April 24, 2020.

The new benefits, which can only be accessed after regular HEAP and initial Emergency HEAP benefits have been exhausted, will mirror the first round of Emergency HEAP:

2019 Novel Coronavirus a Low Risk, But Vigilance Encouraged

Liberty, NY – There are currently no confirmed cases of 2019 Novel Coronavirus in New York State, but Sullivan County Public Health Services has been monitoring the situation closely with State and Federal partners, as part of routine health emergency preparedness.  

Although there is not a lot known about the 2019 Novel Coronavirus at this time, Public Health Services continues to perform communicable disease surveillance in conjunction with the New York State Department of Health.
