Sullivan County Budget Again Wins National Award

Monticello, NY – For the sixth consecutive time, the Sullivan County Manager’s Office and Budget Office have earned the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA).

“This award is the highest form of recognition in governmental budgeting and represents a significant achievement by your organization,” GFOA Technical Services Center Director Michele Mark Levine wrote in congratulations to Sullivan County Manager Josh Potosek.

Sullivan County Exceeds 30,000 Vaccinated Against COVID-19

Liberty, NY – Public Health Director Nancy McGraw is pleased to announce that Sullivan County and partners have vaccinated 30,000 people against COVID-19 as of this week, with more being added daily.

“Our population is just under 76,000, and when you remove those less than 12 years old and thus unable to receive a vaccine dose, approximately 60% of our residents have fully completed their vaccinations,” McGraw noted. “And there are close to 5,000 more who are on their way to joining them in ensuring our communities are safe from this highly contagious virus.”

A Possible Change in Venue for Legislature’s Videos

Monticello, NY – Due to a vendor-supplied hardware issue, the Sullivan County Legislature’s committee meetings being held tomorrow, June 10, 2021, might not be live-streamed in the usual location.

Those wishing to view the meetings as they are being conducted should first try the normal method at http://sullivancountyny.iqm2.com/Citizens/Default.aspx. (Note that meetings may not start exactly on time, so allow at least 5 minutes for a video link to appear.)

Expanded Voting Options Return for the June Primary

Monticello, NY – The Sullivan County Government Center Lobby, 100 North Street in Monticello, will be the polling place for In-Person Early Voting from Saturday, June 12 through Sunday, June 20, 2021, at the following times:

•          Saturday, June 12, 9 a.m.-2 p.m.

•          Sunday, June 13, 9 a.m.-2 p.m.

•          Monday, June 14, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

Youth Bureau Announces 2021 Grant Opportunities

Monticello, NY - The Sullivan County Youth Bureau is now accepting grant applications from organizations which serve children and youth within Sullivan County.

The Youth Bureau receives monies annually from the County and the New York State Office of Children and Family Services to fund youth development programs within Sullivan County. Eligible applicants include private nonprofit organizations, schools and municipalities.

State Accepting Rental Assistance Applications Starting June 1

Liberty, NY – Beginning June 1, the NYS Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance (ODTA) will take applications from people seeking help in paying rent and/or utilities.

“This is an opportunity for anyone who is truly struggling with covering the costs of daily life, especially in the destructive wake of the COVID-19 pandemic,” Sullivan County Health & Family Services Commissioner John Liddle affirmed. “It’s called the Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERAP), and it opens June 1 at 9 a.m.”

WANTED: Older New Yorkers Who Make a Difference

Monticello, NY – While May is recognized nationally as Older Americans Month – acknowledging the incredible efforts and diverse contributions older adults make to communities across the nation – the NYS Office for the Aging has rescheduled the Older New Yorkers’ Day Celebration originally planned for this month. Instead, out of an abundance of caution due to COVID-19, the celebration will be held on October 1, 2021 in digital-only format.
