Foreclosure Redemption Deadline Pushed Back to September 3

Monticello, NY – Local property owners facing tax foreclosure now have until September 3, 2021 to redeem their properties.

“In a normal year, the redemption deadline would be January 31,” explained Sullivan County Treasurer Nancy Buck, whose office collects County taxes. “The State extended that to May 1 this year, and then again to August 31, so in collaboration with our County Legislature, I agreed to extend the foreclosure redemption deadline to September 3 of this year.”

Local Schools Now Focus of COVID Vaccine Efforts

Liberty, NY – As Sullivan County crosses the 50%-vaccinated threshold, its Public Health Services team is now preparing to inoculate local schools’ 16- and 17-year-old students with the Pfizer vaccine – the only vaccine currently authorized for use in those under 18.

“We are launching our first school clinic at Monticello’s Robert J. Kaiser Middle School this Tuesday, May 11,” affirms Public Health Director Nancy McGraw. “The first dose of the Pfizer vaccine will be available to any high school student over 16, with parental consent, plus anyone over 18.”

DeWitt Flats Bridge to Close for Four Months

Jeffersonville, NY – The Sullivan County Division of Public Works is closing a portion of Town Highway 17 (DeWitt Flats Road), in the Town of Callicoon, to replace County Bridge 241.

County Bridge 241 is located approximately 0.3 miles east of the intersection of State Route 52 and DeWitt Flats Rd and will be closed to all traffic starting 8 a.m. on June 1, 2021, remaining closed for approximately 4 months.

Multi-County, Multi-Agency Response to Hazmat Incident at Woodridge Plant

Woodridge, NY – Today, Sunday, April 25, 2021 at 12:12 pm, the Sullivan County 911 Center received a report of two employees at the Newburgh Egg processing facility, 17 Novogrodsky Rd., Woodridge, having a possible allergic reaction. Mobilemedic EMS arrived a short time later and immediately requested the Woodridge Fire Department for a possible chemical leak.

Monticello, NY – In order to more comprehensively cover the full range of lodging opportunities locally, the Sullivan County Legislature just revised the existing Lodging Facility Room Occupancy Tax.

Known informally as the “bed tax” since its 1990 enactment, the tax on the occupancy of lodging facility rooms (5% of the rental rate) is split between the County (which retains 15%) and not-for-profits engaged in tourism marketing and promotion (85%).
