Changes Coming to IDA Board

Monticello, NY – Sullivan County legislators on March 18 confirmed the appointment of two new members to the board of the Industrial Development Agency (IDA), a quasi-governmental agency focused on attracting and enhancing industrial and economic growth, facilitating private-sector investments, creating jobs and maintaining economic stability.

County's Police Reform Plan Available for Review and Comment

Monticello, NY – The Sullivan County Legislature will host two opportunities for public comment in the coming week regarding the Sheriff’s Office’s Police Reform and Reinvention Plan.

The plan and hearing are in accordance with the New York State Governor’s Executive Order #203, which requires a comprehensive review of current Sheriff’s Office Patrol deployments, strategies, policies, procedures and practices to develop a plan to improve operations and address the particular needs of the community.

Delays in DMV Mail? Mail It to Us Instead

Monticello, NY - After mailing in their license and registration renewals, NYS Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) customers have reported long delays in receiving their documentation back from the State offices in Albany and Utica.

“Residents may not realize that they can mail those same renewal forms in to us at the Sullivan County DMV Office – and they’ll get what they need quicker than mailing to a State office,” notes County Clerk Russell Reeves, who oversees the local DMV operations. “This only applies to mailed renewals for licenses and registrations.” 

DA Highlights Importance of Additional Resources to Combat Opiate Crisis

Monticello, NY - District Attorney Meagan K. Galligan has allocated more resources to support Sullivan County’s Opioid Epidemic Task Force and is seeking additional federal funding to combat drug-related crime in Sullivan County.

Galligan announced today that her Office has reallocated resources to support its leadership of the Task Force, and that the Federal Government has accepted her application for designation of Sullivan County as a High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (“HIDTA”).

Legislature Recognizes March as Red Cross Month

Monticello, NY – The Sullivan County Legislature today joined many other municipal bodies in celebrating March as Red Cross Month.

“I’d like to thank everyone who participates in the Red Cross. You’re constantly out there any time there is a problem,” affirmed Legislature Chairman Robert A. Doherty. “We really appreciate everything that you do.”

Doherty then presented a copy of the proclamation (pictured) to Alan H. Turner II, Regional CEO of the American Red Cross’ Western New York Region, of which Sullivan County’s chapter is a part.

New Dropbox Available at Department of Family Services

Liberty, NY – Since it can often be hard to get to the Sullivan County Department of Family Services’ (DFS’) offices during normal business hours, DFS has installed an outdoor dropbox at the Travis Building, 16 Community Lane, Liberty.

“Anyone can use it to drop off applications and documentation after hours (from 5 p.m.-8 a.m.) Monday-Friday and on weekends and holidays,” explains Social Services Commissioner John Liddle. “However, it is not for cash, checks, or money orders, as we don’t want it to become a target of theft.”

It's Time for Spring Cleaning!

Monticello, NY – The Sullivan County Legislature is pleased to announce that Sullivan County’s Annual Roadside Litter Pluck Event will take place from April 1 through June 30, 2021.

The County will waive the waste disposal fee for roadside litter plucked bags, through the County’s Parks, Recreation and Beautification Department and the Division of Public Works.
