Monticello, NY – Sullivan County Community Resources Commissioner Laura Quigley and Public Safety Commissioner Thomas Farney today announced that the County has received 34,500 KN95 masks from the State and is ready to distribute them.
“KN95 masks are far more effective than plain cloth masks at filtering out airborne particles, including the highly contagious omicron variant of COVID-19,” explained Farney. “We’re making these masks available – for free – to any County resident who would like to have one.”

Monticello, NY – Sullivan County will be part of the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation’s (DEC) new Holiday Deer Hunt between December 26, 2021 and January 1, 2022.
Earlier this year, the Sullivan County Legislature unanimously agreed not to participate in the “Holiday Hunt,” a recently-authorized late bow and muzzleloading season for deer, due to concerns that it would interfere with snowmobiling activities and small game hunting, would result in pregnant does being harvested, and would stress deer already tired from nearly three months of hunting.

Monticello, NY – Sullivan County is set to receive over $800,000 for two major restoration projects, thanks to State funding just announced through the CFA (Consolidated Funding Application) program.
Monticello, NY – By an 8-1 vote today, legislators approved the 2022 Sullivan County Budget. District 8 Legislator Ira Steingart cast the dissenting vote.
“I am proud to say that even in the wake of the pandemic, Sullivan County is well on a path to keeping spending under control,” said Legislature Chairman Robert A. Doherty. “This budget also gives us the ability to substantially reduce our overall debt, which can lead to lowering everyone’s tax burden.”
Monticello, NY – Due to increasing interest in the Move Sullivan public transportation service, Sullivan County leaders are planning to add stops and/or hours.
“The Tentative 2022 County Budget includes an additional $200,000 for an expansion of hours and/or routes,” noted Sullivan County Manager Josh Potosek. “We want to prioritize that expansion where there’s the greatest demand.”
Active cases of COVID-19 in Sullivan County are at their highest point since April 16, 2020.

Monticello, NY – Sullivan County legislators this week made note of the State-approved December 1 repeal of the 4% Energy Tax, instituted during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, when County finances faced a potentially perilous future.
“We created the tax amidst unknown times,” explained Legislature Chair Robert A. Doherty. “As soon as we confirmed the County was in a better financial position, we took it off taxpayers’ backs.”
