County Route Closing for Six Months for Bridge Replacement

Grahamsville, NY – The Sullivan County Division of Public Works is closing a portion of County Road 156 (South Hill Road) in the Town of Neversink to replace County Bridge 216. The bridge itself is located approximately 300 feet east of the intersection of State Route 42 and CR 156. This section is scheduled to be closed to all traffic for approximately six months, starting at 8 a.m. on May 1, 2023.

And now Karen Holden can also be called Acting Director of Sullivan County’s Office of Public Health, a role she assumed on March 3.

“I was a little apprehensive,” she admits. “But I don’t think the community knows the full amount of work we do, and I’d like to change that. I want us to be a trusted voice and a trusted resource.”

Few know the amount of work Holden herself has accomplished… and plans on continuing.

Henry Simon

Hurleyville, NY – The Frederick Cook Society will present an afternoon of sixties and seventies music featuring special guest guitarist Henry Simon. 

Henry is a Sullivan West High School student who started playing music at age 9, picked up a guitar at age 11, and at 16, found himself performing in a band with Carol and Aldo Troiani, aka Little Sparrow.  

Youth Bureau Announces 2023 Grant Opportunities

Monticello, NY – The Sullivan County Youth Bureau is now accepting grant applications from organizations which serve children and youth within Sullivan County.

The Youth Bureau receives monies annually from the County and the New York State Office of Children and Family Services to fund youth development programs within Sullivan County. Eligible applicants include private nonprofit organizations, schools and municipalities.

Ag District Application and Review Period Begins April 1

Monticello, NY – For those who want to include their property in one of Sullivan County’s agricultural districts, now’s the time to apply.

From April 1-30, Sullivan County will accept applications to include viable agricultural land into Agricultural District 1 and/or 4. At the same time, the County will conduct its eight-year review of Agricultural District 4.

Sullivan Steps Up in Health Rankings

Liberty, NY – According to the latest Robert Wood Johnson Foundation’s (RWJF’s) County Health Rankings and Roadmap report, Sullivan County has jumped from 61st out of 62 counties to 60.

“While 60th is not something to celebrate, I was very encouraged to see that we improved our results or stayed steady on 25 different metrics,” observed Sullivan County Health & Human Services Commissioner John Liddle.

Time for Spring Cleaning, Sullivan County!

Monticello, NY – Sullivan County’s Annual Roadside & Trail Litter Pluck launches April 1 and runs all the way through October 31, 2023.  By resolution of the County Legislature, the disposal fee is waived during that time for roadside & public trail litter at County-operated transfer stations.

This popular annual event is coordinated by the County’s Parks, Recreation and Beautification Department and the Division of Public Works.
