Monticello, NY – Due to severe damage from Tuesday’s thunderstorms, Sullivan County Manager Josh Potosek has extended the State of Emergency for parts of Sullivan County through this weekend. 

A State of Emergency is issued under Article 2B of New York State Executive Law and in this case applies only to the townships of Highland and Tusten. Note that after 5 p.m. tonight, the declaration will no longer include the towns of Bethel, Cochecton or Forestburgh, based on conversations with their supervisors.

Liberty, NY – Legislators and staff of the Sullivan County Adult Care Center gathered under sunny skies today to celebrate the new name, logo and branding of the facility, now known as the Care Center at Sunset Lake (CCASL).

Drawing upon the name of the town road and County-owned lake which sit immediately adjacent, the Care Center at Sunset Lake rebranding is intended to highlight and reinforce the facility’s commitment to quality long- and short-term care, comfortable surroundings and compassionate service.

Liberty, NY - A power outage in Liberty has affected our Social Services campus, including Public Health Services, the Department of Family Services and the Department of Community Services. (The Care Center at Sunset Lake has power.)

While County facilities are open, citizens should expect delays in obtaining services at these locations, due to the lack of electricity. NYSEG is currently predicting a restoration of power around 11 a.m. this morning.

Hurleyville, NY – Recording artist Mickey Barnett spent a lifetime performing in the legendary Catskill hotels and theaters, and on stages from Brooklyn to Nashville. He has written songs, produced hits, and worked with some of the greatest stars from the past, including Elvis Presley.

On Sunday, June 3, at 2 p.m., Mickey will be at the Sullivan County Museum in Hurleyville to perform some of his old-time country hits and talk about his life in music. The event is presented by the Sullivan County Historical Society, and the band Little Sparrow will host the afternoon.

Monticello, NY – A public meeting will be held on Thursday, May 31, 2018 from 2-4 p.m. in the Sullivan County Government Center’s Legislative Hearing Room, 100 North Street, Monticello, NY, in compliance with NYS Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) Phase II stormwater regulations. 

Monticello, NY – The Beach at Lake Superior State Park and Fort Delaware Museum of Colonial History will open to the public this Memorial Day weekend, starting Saturday, May 26, 2018, and will continue to operate on weekends through the end of June, when they will commence daily operations through Labor Day, announces District 4 Legislator Catherine Owens, chair of the Legislature’s Agriculture and Sustainability Policy Committee, which oversees the County’s park system. 

Hurleyville, NY – Due to repairs required to both the elevator and the sidewalk, the Sullivan County Museum and Cultural Center in Hurleyville will remain closed to the public this weekend and through the middle of next week. A specific reopening date will be announced then.

Monticello, NY - Due to this week's severe weather, the Sullivan County Legislature has authorized FREE acceptance of SPOILED FOOD ONLY from households for disposal at all County-operated transfer stations: Ferndale (Lt. JG Brender Highway), Highland (Route 55, Eldred), Mamakating (Masten Lake Road, Wurtsboro), Monticello (Landfill Drive off East Broadway), Rockland (Beaverkill Road, Livingston Manor) and Western Sullivan (Mitchell Pond East Road, Cochecton) transfer stations today, Thursday, May 17, 2018 through Sunday, May 20, 2018.
