Monticello, NY – The Senior Farmer’s Market Nutrition Program provides an opportunity for eligible seniors to support local farmers and improve nutritional health by increasing their consumption of locally grown fresh fruits, vegetables and fresh-cut herbs.

“Consuming fresh fruits and vegetables can increase the quality of your diet and decrease your risk of hypertension, cancer and cardiovascular disease,” remarks District 2 Legislator Nadia Rajsz, chair of the Legislature’s Health & Family Services Committee.

Woodstock Generation Arrives at Museum July 7

Hurleyville, NY – On Sunday, July 7, at 2 p.m., the Sullivan County Historical Society will present the Johnny Jules Band performing songs that have defined the Woodstock generation. The concert is part of the First Sunday live music and history series at the Sullivan County Museum.  If you like Bob Dylan, the Band, the Grateful Dead, the Byrds, folk, blues and rock, then you don’t want to miss this show. The music is pure Americana, and the songs go as far back as the ‘30s.

Community Development Opportunities Grow with Help from County Funding

The historic Denniston Ford Bridge over the Neversink in Fallsburg. Following a structural assessment, the Town of Fallsburg hopes to rehabilitate and preserve the bridge for many years to come.

Monticello, NY – A total of $305,750 has been awarded to 22 organizations across Sullivan County for a variety of projects involving recreation, beautification, historic preservation, and the arts. This money will leverage almost $600,000 in total project costs.

Venture to the Fort for a Whole Month of Colonial Celebrations

Narrowsburg, NY – Head over to Fort Delaware Museum of Colonial History this July for a step back into colonial times!

In addition to all the other fascinating attractions at the Fort, on July 4 at 1 p.m. visitors will be able to witness depictions of early colonial life on the eve of the Revolution and enjoy traditional music. In addition to the festivities, there will be a reading of the Declaration of Independence, followed by a celebratory mortar fire demo for guests to sit back and enjoy.

Funding Still Available for Planning and Blight Programs

Monticello, NY – Select municipalities across Sullivan County will soon be launching projects under the County’s Business-Friendly Zoning & Permitting and Remove Unsafe Structures (RUSt) programs. Participants were awarded funding to improve their zoning and permitting processes and remove hazardous structures from their communities. The Division of Planning & Community Development has funds still available for municipalities who wish to do the same.

Children and Staff Having Valid Medical Exemptions for Measles Vaccine Can Attend Local Camps

Liberty, NY – The Sullivan County Department of Public Health Services would like to clarify that valid medical exemptions allow children and camp staff to attend summer camp.

“Children and adults who cannot receive the measles vaccine for medically authorized reasons are still allowed to attend camp in Sullivan County, consistent with Public Health Order No. 1 of 2019,” notes Sullivan County Public Health Director Nancy McGraw.

Flags That Flew Over Colonial America to be Displayed at Fort Delaware

Narrowsburg, NY – Head over to Fort Delaware Museum of Colonial History this Saturday, June 22, for an incredible display of early American flags!

In addition to all the other fascinating attractions at the Fort, visitors can take in a full exhibit of flags flown over the Thirteen Colonies and the infant United States. The creation and meaning of Flag Day will be discussed, as well as the significance each flag played in the formation of the United States. 

Public Invited to Talk About Sharing Services

Monticello, NY – Deputy Sullivan County Manager John Liddle is asking residents and business owners throughout the County to share with him their thoughts about more efficient government.

“County Manager Josh Potosek has directed me to spearhead the creation of the State-required Countywide Shared Services Plan for the coming year, and I want to obtain as wide a range of ideas as possible,” Liddle remarked. “The State has promised to match any savings we realize with additional funding, so we have an opportunity to really make a difference for taxpayers.”
