Parksville, NY – The Sullivan County Division of Public Works is closing a portion of Liberty Town Highway 47 (Lily Pond Road) near Parksville to replace County Bridge 228. The bridge is located approximately 500 feet north of the intersection of Cooley Road (County Road 85) and Lily Pond Rd. This section of Town Highway 47 will be closed to all traffic starting 8 a.m. July 18, 2022, and will remain closed for approximately four (4) months.

Monticello, NY – For the seventh time in a row, the Sullivan County Manager’s Office and Budget Office have earned the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA).

A panel of judges reviewed more than 1,700 budgets submitted to the GFOA, including Sullivan County’s version for the 2022 fiscal year. They judged the budgets on their excellence as policy documents, financial plans, operations guides and communications devices, deeming Sullivan’s to be “outstanding” in all four categories.

Monticello, NY – Sullivan County Treasurer Nancy Buck is pleased to note that the County’s decision to extend the delinquent property redemption deadline from April 30 to June 30 this year allowed 35 homeowners to retain their properties, while also reaping $400,000 in tax revenue for the County.

The Sullivan County Historical Society’s display about the Neversink-Hackledam project (left) sits next to one about the Town of Thompson’s one-room schoolhouses. The topics are connected by the history of a cable bridge over the Neversink River that allowed local children to get to school.

County Bridge 427 in the Town of Fallsburg, on Krum Road, will be closed on Friday June 24 for maintenance. Traffic will need to utilize Mitteer Road/TH 76, County Road 104, Mongaup Road/TH 46 Road to Krum Road as alternate roads. Maintenance closure may be needed for 2 weeks depending upon weather.

Monticello, NY – District 1 Sullivan County Legislator Robert A. Doherty today released the following statement in response to Assemblywoman Aileen Gunther’s call for Sullivan County to adopt a temporary cap on the taxes it collects on sales of gasoline:

“It is unfortunate that the Assemblywoman does not understand that we are a sales tax-based economy. By cutting that sales tax – even for a temporary period – we are cutting critical revenues during our busiest time of year, which will most assuredly lead to financial hardships for the rest of the year.
