South Fallsburg, NY – The Sullivan County Department of Public Health has confirmed that a stray cat euthanized in the South Fallsburg area tested positive for the rabies virus. Exposed persons are currently receiving appropriate treatment.

Monticello, NY – In compliance with NYS Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) Phase II stormwater regulations, the Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) Annual Report, prepared by the Sullivan County Division of Public Works for DEC General Permit GP-0-15-003, is available for public review and comment.
White Lake, NY – In preparation for a $20 million-plus rebuild, the John J.J. McGough Terminal of Sullivan County International Airport will close this Tuesday, May 30.
“Airport operations will be unaffected,” said Public Works Commissioner Edward McAndrew, whose team of engineers, airport workers and laborers have already removed furniture, fixtures and other items from the 55-year-old building. “Throughout the two years of this project, the Airport will remain open for takeoffs, landings, maintenance/repairs, storage, refueling and flight instruction.”

Liberty, NY – Sullivan County’s Department of Social Services (DSS) has received reports of free phone and tablet giveaways in the community that may not be sanctioned by a trusted partner organization or government entity.
“Folks have been approached by individuals in front of grocery stores and on sidewalks, offering them free electronics. These devices may or may not be safe to use, and we encourage people to let us know anytime they encounter such an offer,” said Social Services Commissioner John Liddle.
Woodridge, NY - Come out and celebrate National Trails Day with the Sullivan O&W Rail Trail Alliance on Saturday, June 3rd at 9 a.m. on the historic O&W Rail Trail between Woodridge and Fallsburg. The trail clean-up event will gather and begin at the trailhead at 269 River Road, Woodridge. Trash bags will be provided to volunteers.
Bethel, NY – Lake Superior State Park on Dr. Duggan Road in Bethel will open for picnicking and boat rentals starting Memorial Day Weekend and remain open every weekend through the end of June, when it will commence daily operations through Labor Day. The beach area will open for swimming on Father’s Day weekend, June 17th. Hours are 9 a.m.-7 p.m. Friday-Sunday and 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday-Thursday, subject to weather conditions.
