Sullivan County's Senior Games Welcomes Players and Volunteers

Monticello, NY – Let the fun begin! Sullivan County’s Senior Games are returning to Monticello this month, and if you’re 55 or older, you can join in, either as a competitor or a volunteer!

Sponsored by the Sullivan County Office for the Aging and the Monticello Parks & Recreation Department, a bevy of friendly competitive sports will be on tap at the Ted Stroebele Recreation Center in Monticello, starting with the opening ceremony and breakfast at 8 a.m. Monday, September 24.

Sullivan County Auctioning Surplus Vehicles & Equipment

Monticello, NY – Bidders are welcome from now through September 24 on more than 100 items of heavy equipment (yellow iron), cars, buses, light/medium/heavy-duty trucks, trailers, tires and assorted parts up for auction by the Sullivan County Division of Public Works (DPW).

“From a seized BMW sedan to unused tires to handyman tool boxes, we’ve got a lot to pick through,” says District 7 Legislator and Public Works Committee Chair Joe Perrello. “I invite everyone to take a look and make a bid.”

Monticello, NY – Residents requiring electrical devices to meet otherwise life-threatening medical needs can do more than simply recognize September as National Preparedness Month, notes Sullivan County Public Safety Commissioner Rick Sauer.

“This past March, Winter Storm Riley knocked power out for some 24,000 people in our region, and May’s powerful windstorm darkened more than 27,000 homes and businesses,” he says. “This left some of our citizens without access to crucial medical supplies, like oxygen, for days on end.”

Sullivan County Marks International Overdose Awareness Day with Launch of Mapping System

Monticello, NY – In a proactive response to the national opioid epidemic, Sullivan County’s 911 Center and Public Health Services have joined forces to precisely track local overdoses. Provided by the U.S. Office of National Drug Control Policy, the mapping system will launch tomorrow, September 1, the day after International Overdose Awareness Day.

Recycling Presentations Available to Community Groups

Monticello, NY –The Sullivan County Department of Solid Waste and Recycling invites civic groups, libraries, businesses and public service organizations to take advantage of a free recycling lecture series.

Nationwide, recyclable and compostable materials make up almost three-quarters of the trash sent to landfills for disposal each year. Making more productive use of these materials is a top priority, since garbage exported and buried in landfills requires lots of fuel to transport, generates greenhouse gases and costs money to manage properly.

County Again Wins Major Budget Award

Monticello, NY – For the third time, the Sullivan County Manager’s Office and the Division of Management and Budget have earned the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA).

Funding Available for Municipalities to Be More Business-Friendly

Monticello, NY – Bethel, Highland, and Monticello will join the towns of Liberty and Thompson in launching projects under Sullivan County’s new Business-Friendly Zoning & Permitting Program. All were awarded funding to improve their zoning and permitting processes, and the Division of Planning and Community Development still has funds available for municipalities who wish to do the same.

Sullivan County Tax Foreclosure Auction Is August 29

Rock Hill, NY – The rescheduled 2018 Sullivan County Real Estate Tax Foreclosure Auction will be held Wednesday, August 29 at the Sullivan Ramada Rock Hill at 283 Rock Hill Drive in Rock Hill.

Sullivan County Treasurer Nancy Buck urges potential bidders – especially first-time bidders – to attend a Bidder’s Seminar on Monday, August 27 at 7 p.m. at the same location. The terms and conditions of the auction will be explained, as will the foreclosure process and associated liens. Questions about specific properties can be answered at that time, as well.
