Local Students Creating Valentines to Thank Veterans

Monticello, NY – The Sullivan County Veterans Service Agency proudly presents a “Valentines for Vets” exhibit in the lobby of the County Government Center, 100 North Street, Monticello. 

Every year, local students create special Valentine’s Day cards to brighten the lives of veterans. 
Last year thanks to the efforts of teachers and students, more than 2,000 valentines were delivered to hospitalized veterans at the VA Medical Centers in Castle Point and Albany.

With Flu-Related Hospitalizations Up, Sullivan County Offers Vaccinations

Monticello, NY – Sullivan County Public Health officials and staff participated on a statewide conference call today to get an update from the NYS Department of Health Commissioner about the increase in the number of influenza cases and hospitalizations across New York. Sullivan County Public Health Services has implemented local flu surveillance reporting protocols in collaboration with area healthcare providers to help monitor flu prevalence in the County.

County Launches 2018 Plans & Progress Grant Program

Monticello, NY – Applications are now being accepted for funding of community improvement projects through the Sullivan County Plans & Progress Small Grant Program.

The purpose of the program is to assist local municipalities, community groups, and not-for-profit organizations throughout Sullivan County with projects related to tourism, community and economic development, image enhancement, trails development, health improvement, agricultural and farmland protection, and other County goals.

Community Design Tools, Sign Regulations to be Focus of Workshop

Monticello, NY – How can thoughtful planning and design shape vibrant and attractive communities?

The Sullivan County Division of Planning and Community Development invites local planning, zoning, and municipal officials as well as interested community members to an upcoming workshop to explore this idea. Representatives from the Department of State will lead two training sessions on Monday, February 26 from 5-8:30 p.m. in the Legislative Hearing Room of the Government Center in Monticello. Light fare will be provided in between sessions for attendees.

Human Rights Commission Has Two Positions Available

Monticello, NY – The Sullivan County Human Rights Commission is seeking two new members to fill vacancies on its Board of Commissioners.

Commissioners are volunteers who meet once a month in public session and oversee the operations and policies of the Human Rights Commission. They are interviewed and chosen by their fellow commissioners to serve a three-year term on the board, subject to official appointment by the Sullivan County Legislature.

Welfare Fraud Task Force Continues Crackdown

Liberty, NY – Bolstered by a collaborative effort amongst local agencies, the Sullivan County Welfare Fraud Task Force announces the following arrests:

• Donald E. Doolittle, 39, of Monticello was arrested and charged with the Class E Felony of Offering a False Instrument for Filing 1st Degree and the Class A Misdemeanor of Welfare Fraud 5th. It is alleged that Doolittle stole $2,928 in food stamp benefits by failing to report household income. Doolittle was released on an appearance ticket pending his appearance in the Town of Liberty Court.
