Welcome to the Sullivan Volunteers Program!
The Sullivan Volunteers program was established in June of 2025 following the end of the AmeriCorps funding which provided financial support for the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) since 1973. When the AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP funding expired, it provided the opportunity to pivot the program to Sullivan Volunteers - our own County-funded program meeting our own locally-identified priorities.
Sullivan Volunteers is an intergenerational volunteer program designed to help unite diverse populations in order to promote a stronger sense of community and purpose. The program unites the different generations in ways that enrich the participants' lives by sharing what the younger generation and their elders have to offer each other and the Sullivan County community. The program brings people from different generations together for mutually beneficial, planned volunteer opportunities which are designed to help those in need, which in turn promotes a greater understanding and respect between generations. It aims to support aging in place and community organizations through dedicated local volunteers.
Now is the time to put your skills and talents to good use by helping others in your community. The Sullivan Volunteers program allows you to choose how and where you want to serve . You choose the amount of time you want to give, and you choose whether you want to draw on your skills or develop new ones. In short, you find the opportunity that's right for you.
As a member of the program, you are a part of a County-wide movement with a vital tradition of helping others build strong and healthy communities. As a Sullivan Volunteers member, you will meet many new people, discover ways in which your life experiences can improve the quality of life for individuals, and have opportunities to serve and get involved.
In return for your time and energy, you will make new friends, learn new skills, remain a vital part of your community and be recognized for your efforts. When you volunteer, you're not just helping others, you're helping yourself. Volunteering leads to new discoveries, increased social and physical benefits, an improved sense of self, increased self-confidence, and purpose in life, and overall promotes a more positive outlook on life.
