Liberty, NY – The Sullivan County Department of Social Services has been notifying families around the County that payments to childcare providers will soon be offered again through the Child Care Assistance Program (CCAP), thanks to a doubling of funding provided by New York State.
CCAP helps eligible families with some or all of the cost of childcare. Each local social services district manages CCAP with funding and support from the NYS Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS).
“We will be reopening our Child Care Assistance Program to all in the community on a first-come, first-served basis, starting September 16, 2026 at 9 a.m.,” confirmed Acting Sullivan County Social Services Commissioner Giselle Steketee. “We will continually monitor funding as we authorize cases.”
Once accepted into the program, families will begin receiving the subsidy in October.
“This is a true lifeline for many parents and caregivers throughout Sullivan County, and I am both thrilled and relieved that we can restart this absolutely necessary program,” said District 5 Legislator Catherine Scott, chair of the Legislature’s Health & Human Services Committee. “I encourage all who are interested to apply as soon as the program reopens on September 16. Even though we now have $6 million available instead of $3 million, we also have more families needing this assistance than ever before.”
How to apply
Applications will be accepted online at https://hs.ocfs.ny.gov/childcareassistance, via email at DSSChildCare@sullivanny.gov, by fax at 845-292-1320 (attn: Child Care Unit) or in person at the Department of Social Services (Travis Building), 16 Community Lane, Liberty, NY.
A face-to-face or phone interview is required for each applicant. Those applying in person will have the chance to conduct the interview immediately, while all other applicants will receive an assigned appointment time and date.
All applications will be reviewed in the order they are received. The Department of Social Services has up to 30 days to determine eligibility, and all families will be notified of their findings by mail.
