Monticello, NY – The Sullivan County Board of Elections is encouraging local registered Republican voters to serve as paid election inspectors on Election Day, November 3.
“State law requires every poll site to have a sufficient number of inspectors from the major political parties,” explained Pamela Murran, the Republican Commissioner of the Board of Elections. “We have the necessary number of Democratic voters signed up – we need more Republicans in order to properly staff our 33 polling locations in November.”
Republican elections inspectors are specifically sought in the townships of Callicoon, Fallsburg, Fremont, Neversink, Thompson and Tusten.
“Election inspectors are a vital part of the democratic process,” added Deanna Senyk, the Democratic Commissioner of the Board of Elections. “They prepare the polling place for voting, set up the voting equipment, sign in and process voters, close the polling place, canvass and report the results, and assist voters, if requested.”
Inspectors must be at least 17 years old and registered to vote in Sullivan County as either a Democrat or Republican. The County Board of Elections provides training and support, including paying inspectors $40 to take the half-day class and $300 to serve a full day at their assigned polling location.
